Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is set to reveal Mandarin Oriental Kanai, Riviera Maya, a luxury beachfront resort with branded residences on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, in 2028.

Situated within a gated community surrounded by pristine jungle and a protected mangrove reserve, the property will feature 120 elegantly designed guestrooms and suites, each with private pools and expansive views of the Caribbean Sea.

Additionally, the resort will include 50 spacious branded residences that offer owners access to an exclusive beach club.

The design team behind Mandarin Oriental Kanai, Riviera Maya

The resort’s design, led by Mexico City-based architectural firm Migdal Arquitectos, will emphasize a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience, enhanced by natural materials like marble, wood, leather, and locally woven fabrics.

The property will draw poetic inspiration from Mayan architecture while respecting the natural environment. Courtesy of New York’s William Gray, a new luxury offering by Meyer Davis, will showcase a curated collection of art and design, creating a tranquil ambiance that harmonizes with the surrounding fauna, which will be landscaped by Maat Handasa.

Meanwhile, the Spa at Mandarin Oriental and the Beach Club will feature distinctive design elements from studio Esrawe.

In addition, renowned artist Bosco Sodi will bring a unique artistic vision as art curator and design consultant for the project. His approach, rooted in the Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy and traditional Mayan aesthetics, will add a distinct, elemental touch.

Mandarin Oriental Kanai, Riviera Maya will offer an array of dining experiences, including a beach club, café, and pool bar, as well as three outdoor pools and elegant indoor and outdoor event spaces.

The resort is being developed by GIM Desarrollos, a real estate developer with operations throughout the region.

Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas has debuted its reimagined 23rd floor, home to the brand’s signature Peacock Alley and the new Hard Shake bar and lounge.

This transformation marks a significant milestone in the hotel’s multimillion-dollar renovation. (Previous enhancements include the revamp of all guestrooms and suites, over 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and the introduction of a ground-floor lobby, which was previously located on the 23rd floor.)

Designed by Rockwell Group, both venues embrace a fusion of Las Vegas glamour and desert-inspired aesthetics.

Hard Shake

Replacing the former SkyBar, Hard Shake exudes Old Hollywood allure with a modern twist.

Deep indigo banquettes, Art Deco accents, and a marbled dark stone bar framed by champagne brass give the space a sophisticated edge. Overhead, a gold-illuminated fixture casts a warm, moody glow.

Peacock Alley

Peacock Alley greets guests with an airy, stylish ambiance and sweeping views of the Las Vegas Strip. Upon entering from the elevator lobby, guests are greeted by the signature Clock at Peacock Alley, a statement timepiece that draws inspiration from desert sundials.

The focal point is a feather-shaped bar topped with a sculptural glass canopy, set against a custom mosaic tile floor. A clear-glass light fixture creates a dynamic, rhythmic pattern across the ceiling as well.

Floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the lounge in natural light, while a palette of muted blues and grays create a soothing ambiance that transforms from day to night.

London-based studio Holloway Li has been appointed by tourism and hospitality group Tripolers to develop the interior design strategy for its debut boutique spa-hotel amidst the Singing Sand Dunes of Dunhuang, China.

Nestled within a natural oasis along the historic Silk Road, Tripolers Oasis Hotel will draw inspiration from dramatic desert vistas and the nearby UNESCO-listed Mogao Caves.

The resort—positioned in a lush, working vineyard at the edge of the dunes—will feature 15 private villas strategically placed along the edge of the site to maximize privacy and offer views of the surrounding dunes. Two-story suite blocks, boasting roof terraces with uninterrupted vistas, will be situated deeper within the vineyard.

Holloway Li’s design concept aims to create a transformative guest experience that reflects a physical and spiritual journey.

The arrival experience

Tripolers Oasis Hotel Dunhuang China singing sand dunes wabi sabi reception

Upon arrival, guests will enter a serene drop-off area comprising four intimate single-story pavilions housing the reception area, lounge, boutique shop, bar, and refreshment deck. These pavilions will be thoughtfully arranged to symbolize a gesture of embrace to further extend a warm welcome onsite.

A courtyard will feature naturally sculpted stone and a weathered Huyang tree—both shaped by the desert climate—that emphasize the hotel’s philosophy of celebrating nature in its purest form.

An array of amenities

Tripolers Oasis Hotel Dunhuang China singing sand dunes wabi sabi courtyard

Public spaces—including a restaurant, bar and lounge, chef’s table, and luxurious spa rooms—will be connected by golden sandy courtyards that lead to a tranquil outdoor pool with panoramic views of the Singing Sand Dunes.

A fire-pit area, meanwhile, extends into the desert, to provide a unique setting for private dining or stargazing.

Design details of Tripolers Oasis Hotel

Tripolers Oasis Hotel Dunhuang China singing sand dunes wabi sabi living room

Inspired by wabi-sabi philosophy, the design emphasizes simplicity, imperfection, and the passage of time. Reclaimed materials, for example, will be employed to create spaces that feel both rustic and refined.

Earthy tones and natural materials—like clay, teak, and stone—will add warmth to the interiors, while carefully curated furniture and artwork will celebrate the beauty of local craftsmanship and the rich cultural history of the area.

The design of the guestrooms will be rooted in the local heritage of Dunhuang, influenced by the traditional murals found in the Mogao Caves, where monks, merchants, and travelers have sought rest for centuries. The color schemes are guided by the three primary pigments—Tubai (clary white), Shashi (sandy yellow), and Zhusha (earthy red)—reinforcing a deep connection between the guest experience and the region’s legacy.

“We were stunned by the incredible site for Tripolers Oasis Hotel and the opportunity to create a truly world-class offering,” says Na Li, managing director of Holloway Li. “We are excited to work alongside our long-term local collaborators GAD and Z’scape to bring this breathtaking scheme to life.”

Tripolers Oasis Hotel is slated for completion in 2026.

Banyan Tree has officially opened its first resort in Singapore.

Set amidst the lush greenery of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Mandai Rainforest Resort features 338 guestrooms and suites (including 24 treehouses), two signature dining experiences, a rooftop pool with unobstructed views of the Upper Seletar Reservoir, and a Banyan Tree Spa.

A biophilic design

Spanning 11 acres, the resort was designed by WOW Architects with an emphasis on biophilia that blends architecture with its natural surroundings. Mature trees have been preserved onsite, and the resort’s elevated wings allow native wildlife to move freely beneath them.

Upon arrival, guests encounter two towering trees that anchor the property’s commitment to harmonizing with nature. A 40-foot-tall Rain Tree (Samanea saman) takes centerstage with its expansive umbrella-shaped canopy, evoking the serene atmosphere of a rainforest.

Meanwhile, an Indian Beech tree (Millettia pinnata), known for its soil-enriching properties and ability to nurture local biodiversity, stands on the other side of the entrance, symbolizing balance and sustainability.

Mandai Rainforest Resort’s lobby enhances this connection with the environment via bespoke furniture crafted from upcycled wood and organic-inspired lighting features that create a warm and welcoming ambiance.

Accommodations at Mandai Rainforest Resort

The resort comprises 24 elevated treehouses and a five-story main building with 314 rooms and suites.

The treehouses, resembling seed pods, offer a private retreat that hovers above the ground and boasts its own patio. The main building, which rises vertically through the forest layers, provides panoramic vistas of the surrounding rainforest, gardens, and nearby reservoir.

Meanwhile, the interior design concept pays homage to the rainforest’s complexity. Artwork illustrates the forest’s distinct layers—from the forest floor to the emergent canopy. Antique lithographs of native wildlife—including the lesser mousedeer, white-collared kingfisher, and grey-headed fish eagle— celebrate Singapore’s unique biodiversity.

A commitment to sustainability

Sustainability is a guiding principle throughout the resort. Rooms feature windows that fully open for natural ventilation as well as temperature regulation that mimics the rainforest’s cool atmosphere.

An interactive display is installed in each room to track energy usage, while rainwater harvesting systems provide water for flushing.

These efforts have earned the property Singapore’s first Green Mark Platinum recognition as a Super Low Energy (SLE) resort.

Additional amenities

The resort’s 300-seat Meranti Ballroom draws inspiration from the mysteries of the forest floor, with a design centered on the Bridal Veil Stinkhorn, a tropical mushroom with a striking hexagonal motif.

Furthermore, the Banyan Tree Spa features three treatment pods inspired by the Sunda pangolin, with exteriors that mimic the pangolin’s protective scales.

The maritime narrative begins at arrival, where a dramatic arched entry and gradually revealed façade evoke a sense of discovery. Referencing legendary yachts and the golden hues of sunset, the resort’s palette combines marble, organic woods, soft-edged furnishings with luxurious details, like hand-blown crystal lighting and handcrafted silk carpets.

Guestrooms channel the sleek lines of Italian Riva boats, each opening onto expansive private terraces with uninterrupted views of the Arabian Gulf.

The suites, meanwhile, elevate the aesthetic with bolder expressions and vivid finishes. The Royal Suite boasts a 3,336-square-foot terrace with a private plunge pool suspended above water, while the Pearl Suite, with an expansive wraparound terrace, boasts enough space to host up to 80 guests.

Jumeirah Residences Marsa Al Arab offers 82 one- to three-bedroom units with sweeping marina or ocean views and exclusive access to private amenities.

Perched on the eastern foothills of Santorini’s ancient Thira mountain overlooking the seaside village of Kamari, the new Sandblu resort is now open for its first full season.

The 66-room property, designed by Rockwell Group, embraces bold geometric architecture that appears to cascade down the rugged landscape toward the Aegean Sea, creating an organic connection between cliff and coastline.

Sandblu leans into Greek minimalism

The resort’s palette takes its cues from Santorini’s natural beauty, with whitewashed woods, local stone, marble, and vibrant accents of blue and sage reflecting both the sea and vibrant bougainvillea.

Inside, guestrooms and suites channel a modern Greek minimalism. Many accommodations feature outdoor terraces and private plunge pools, framing sweeping sea views. Three multi-bedroom villas are complete with expansive living spaces, kitchens, and private terraces with infinity pools.

Dining experiences and amenities

Sandblu’s immersive design philosophy carries through to its six dining venues, which each offer a distinct atmosphere.

From the alfresco charm of Nectar to the indoor-outdoor energy of Plateia, every space deepens the connection to the surrounding landscape. Meanwhile, a new outpost in Imerovigli extends Sandblu’s DNA to a dramatic clifftop perch overlooking the caldera.

Wellness is also woven into the Sandblu experience, with a modern fitness center along with the Aurora Spa comprising eight treatment rooms, an indoor pool, sauna, and a range of holistic programs.

Taj Bangalore, located at the Kempegowda International Airport adjacent to Terminal 1, has expanded with 220 additional rooms—including double rooms and premium corner suites.

Inside the Taj Bangalore expansion

Taj Bangalore Bengaluru International Airport atrium tree

Crafted by Indian firm Morphogenesis, the architecture adopts a C-shaped configuration that draws inspiration from traditional courtyard structures found in the region. The lobby unfolds beneath a five-level atrium crowned by a skylit roof. Here, a sculptural installation echoes Bengaluru’s famed banyan trees, anchoring the lobby in the city’s botanical legacy.

A ground-floor corridor and third-level skybridge link the new and original hotel phases. These circulation pathways ensure efficiency and guest convenience, with the skybridge capturing a unique perspective of the active runways below.

Landscaping elements, including sunken courts bordering the all-day dining area and a semi-open rooftop restaurant, transform transitional spaces into tranquil retreats. Meanwhile, an eatery on the fifth floor invokes the typology of local open-air pavilions, framed by runway views.

Interiors—outfitted in Serpeggiante marble, native granite, and accents of green and blue—evoke the surrounding landscape and the city’s waterways. Custom furnishings with motifs inspired by regional craftsmanship and local artwork reinforce a sense of place.
